Production Worker – Multiple Vacancies

PMB Defence has multiple Production Worker vacancies available for an immediate start. The successful applicants will be working with a world leader manufacturer of submarine battery systems, in our brand new state of the art facility in Osborne. You must have previous experience in a production / manufacturing role. There are opportunities for overtime as well as occasional weekend work. Your duties will include

  • Manufacturing products to exceptional standards

What do you need to be successful?

  • Have previous experience in a similar production/manufacturing position
  • Ability to be available for shift work, therefore those with their own transport or ability to reliably get to the premises should apply
  • Be an Australia Citizen and be South Australia based
  • Hold a current police clearance from the past 6 months or be willing to obtain one
  • Be comfortable undertaking regular Lead in Blood testing
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment medical with a Drug and Alcohol screen

Senior Software/Electronic Engineer – New Technologies

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Senior Software/Electronic Engineer to join New Technology Team. PMB’s New Technology team is the innovation centre of PMB Defence. The team are focussed on developing new products for our customers across conventional and nuclear submarine platforms, as well as investigating new and emerging opportunities outside of our traditional space. This is about more than just batteries; this is about building systems that enhance the capability of our customers products.

The Senior Software/Electronics Engineer will be responsible for providing an inhouse software engineering capability to support New Technologies battery management system development. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying complex issues/ product improvements and the business case for both internal and external stakeholders, including the associated budget and schedule;
  • Leading and delivering the resolution of defined complex issues within the constraints of quality, budget and schedule;
  • Leading and delivering the execution of projects and company initiatives;
  • Provide specialist advice and consulting services, as required, to management, other Engineers and external clients.
  • Designing, developing and verification of new products, processes, and improvements to existing products.
  • Maintenance support for new products.
  • Mentoring other engineers

The successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electronic or Software Engineering or Computer Science
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, embedded software systems;
  • Proven ability in the development, implementation of complex technical projects;
  • Experience in development of products using one or more of C, Python 3.x or similar scripting languages, modelling, and software engineering processes.
  • Team leadership experience
  • Excellent written communication skills for production of specifications, plans and reports.
  • Knowledge or experience in electronic product development (desirable)
  • Experience in development of Qt for embedded Linux applications (desirable)
  • Experience in development of GUIs on an embedded Linux platform (desirable)
  • Knowledge in battery management systems (desirable)

Senior Mechanical Engineer – New Technologies

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Senior Mechanical Engineer to join New Technology Team. PMB’s New Technology team is the innovation centre of PMB Defence. The team are focussed on developing new products for our customers across conventional and nuclear submarine platforms, as well as investigating new and emerging opportunities outside of our traditional space. This is about more than just batteries; this is about building systems that enhance the capability of our customers products.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you would be responsible for bringing an innovative and strong technical mindset to the team to support the development of new system designs from concept through to manufacture and installation. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the Mechanical engineering design and development of new and existing projects and products.
  • Working with the project manager to meet internal and external milestones and budgets.
  • Preparing and leading technical design reviews – internally and externally.
  • Working with multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, electronic engineers and technical officers to develop a cohesive technical solution.
  • Mentoring junior engineers in product design and the development process
  • Leading the development and test programs for new products.
  • Planning and overseeing the testing of new products including shock, environmental and thermal tests.
  • Approving technical reports such as design documentation, test procedures and test reports to be issued to the customer.
  • Providing expertise and advice as required to production departments in support of existing contracts.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience in design and product development (end to end), with skills in structural and thermal design
  • Experience working on Defence projects within Australia
  • A strong technical skill base and the desire to continue to grow your technical knowledge – a genuine passion for technology and engineering
  • Self-motivation and ability to self-manage. This person will be the subject matter expert for the mechanical design of products
  • Experience with designing and executing verification and validation activities.
  • Knowledge of and experience with thermal and structural design related to military shipboard equipment
  • Knowledge and experience with packaging of electrical and electronics equipment
  • Experience in Systems Engineering and Safety
  • Knowledge and experience with Python programming language

Research and Development Engineer/Scientist

About the role

We are seeking a Research and Development Engineer/Scientist to join the New Technology team. PMB’s New Technology team is the innovation centre of PMB Defence. The team are focussed on developing new products for our customers across conventional and nuclear submarine platforms, as well as investigating new and emerging opportunities outside of our traditional space. This is about more than just batteries; this is about building systems that enhance the capability of our customer’s products.

Reporting to the Research and Development Manager, this role will support R&D activities for cell and battery design by planning and conducting research and test activities. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical support to the R&D and New Technologies team, with a primary focus on Nickel Zinc and Lithium-ion battery technology and electrochemistry.
  • Working with the Senior R&D Engineer to conduct research and development, analyse test results and propose improvements to the design to meet target performance requirements
  • Working to a schedule to prepare, perform, monitor, maintain and report on ongoing testing.
  • Contributing to the development of project documentation, such as research studies, test plans, reports and presentations to the R&D manager and New Technologies team.
  • Developing experimental hypothesis and conducting experimental tests as a member of a team or independently.
  • Generating and reporting data to the R&D Manager according to agreed timeframes and milestones.
  • Performing laboratory administrative tasks.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor of Science/Chemistry or related discipline, or Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical/Materials
  • Previous experience in a research laboratory or test environment, with the ability to carry out test activities
  • Knowledge of electrochemical systems and battery testing (desirable)
  • Data analysis or data management skills (ie. knowledge of python, or SQL database management) (desirable)
  • Knowledge, skills and experience in report writing, record keeping, presentation of results, literature research, and data collection and analysis
  • Ability to use hand tools and workshop equipment (desirable)

Security Lead

About the role

To support PMB Defence’ rapid growth in the international Defence business, the Security Lead will be responsible for streamlining Defence security practices across multiple jurisdictions, whilst ensuring adherence to Australia’s Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) requirements. The Security Lead will also play a vital collaborative role in supporting ICT/Cyber and Export Control practices, predominately in Australia and the United Kingdom. Reporting to the General Manager Commercial and Business Support, key responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the ICT/Cyber, Human Resources and Facilities teams to manage compliance in the areas of Governance, ICT/Cyber, Facility and Personnel Security Clearances
  • Acting as lead auditee for the DISP/Security audits and taking the lead in closing out all actions resulting from audits.
  • Checking, monitoring and administering the access control passes for all employees, contractors and visitors, including that of the classified area in accordance with the applicable security policies and procedures.
  • Managing the security clearance applications for PMB personnel, and their change of circumstances (via myClearance portal).
  • Managing compliance against the Physical Security (Zoning) requirements.
  • Developing and presenting monthly reports and other reports related to the security function.
  • Facilitating and presenting annual security awareness and other training of PMB personnel.
  • Reporting security incidents, fraud incidents and other relevant reports to management and to Defence.
  • Ensuring security systems and container maintenance requirements are managed and providing administrative management to the security alarm and access systems.
  • Managing and controlling classified holdings in site security containers.
  • Maintaining the Defence Security Assessed Position (DSAP) list.
  • Upkeeping of the Security Risk Management Plan and Security Risk Assessments.
  • Providing support in interpreting security requirements of foreign contracts (such as the UK, Canada and/or NATO).

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous completion of an Australian run Security Officer course
  • Demonstrated hands on experience as a Security Officer in defence or government
  • Understanding of the Australian Defence Security Requirements (DSPF/PSPF)
  • Understanding of Security Risk Management (desirable)
  • Experience working in or familiarity with the security requirements of the UK or other NATO countries (desirable)
  • Experience with export control requirements in Australia, the UK or US (desirable)
  • Understanding of Australian Essential-8, UK DEFSTAN, US NIST-800 or ISO 27001 standards (desirable)

Pre-requisites
