Senior/Lead Mechanical Engineer

About the role

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Senior/Lead Mechanical Engineer to join a high performing SME and work on products across the full life cycle from design through to manufacturing and in-service support, all at one state of the art facility. This role offers exposure to a diverse and technically interesting product range spanning mechanical, electrical, chemical and software disciplines, with opportunities to work directly with the end-users of the products.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading end-to-end mechanical engineering activities, including design, development, manufacturing support, and technical governance/authorisation.
  • Providing technical advice and engineering authorisation in accordance with company Engineering Authorisation processes;
  • Driving product quality and performance by investigating issues, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Working closely with customers, suppliers and internal teams to define requirements, support production, and lead design reviews and risk assessments.
  • Leading continuous improvement initiatives or studies, including product, process, and reliability improvements;
  • Providing mentoring and development to engineers across multiple disciplines, supporting capability growth within the engineering function;
  • Collaborating with Project Managers and other stakeholders to develop and maintain project plans, timelines, and resource allocations.
  • Leading the delivery of engineering components of projects;

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills and experience: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Mechanical or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience across a range of mechanical engineering focused fields, design, product development, reliability, manufacturing, logistics.
  • Understanding of a range of non-technical business considerations such as customer satisfaction, financial, commercial and risk
  • Ability to lead small projects, investigations and teams to achieve an outcome
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, production, or industrial environments
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong  verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to project delivery or project management activities
  • Experience in defence or defence-related systems engineering environments (desirable)

Prerequisites

  • Be eligible to successfully obtain and maintain a NV1 Australian Defence Security Clearance (must be an Australian Citizen)
  • Hold a current driver’s licence.
  • Ability to obtain a current police clearance.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and Drug & Alcohol screen.
  • Ability to travel occasionally interstate and overseas for work and training purposes.
  • Undertake six monthly lead in blood testing
