Production Worker – Multiple Vacancies

PMB Defence has multiple Production Worker vacancies available for an immediate start. The successful applicants will be working with a world leader manufacturer of submarine battery systems, in our brand new state of the art facility in Osborne. You must have previous experience in a production / manufacturing role. There are opportunities for overtime as well as occasional weekend work. Your duties will include

What do you need to be successful?

  • Have previous experience in a similar production/manufacturing position
  • Ability to be available for shift work, therefore those with their own transport or ability to reliably get to the premises should apply

  • Hold a current police clearance from the past 6 months or be willing to obtain one
  • Be comfortable undertaking regular Lead in Blood testing

Senior Commercial and Contracts Officer

About the role

To support the next phase of PMB Defence’s journey, an exciting new part time role now exists for an experienced contracts/commercial officer looking to be part of our family. Reporting directly to the Commercial and Contracts Manager, this role will assist in providing contracts and commercial services to various projects and functions.

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned contracts/commercial officer looking to kickstart or further their career in the defence sector with an Adelaide based business.  Key responsibilities will include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Providing in contractual support to bids and contracts, including contract/commercial responses to tenders in accordance with agreed company strategy, conducting contractual reviews of customer requirements, making recommendations and working with the reporting manager and/or Bid Manager in formulating the tender responses;
  • Identifying cost drivers, commercial risks and propose solutions for the contractual issues;
  • Working with engineering, finance, manufacturing, project management and supply chain functions in delivering the tender/contract outcomes by providing guidance and contractual support (including interpretations of suppliers’ terms and conditions);
  • Lead or input into commercial summaries for required approval;
  • Manage or assist in contract mobilisation activities, contract change proposals (CCPs) and participate in CCP reviews;
  • Lead or assist in drafting subcontract terms and conditions;
  • Maintain contractual baselines of tenders/contracts;
  • Provide contractual input to project reports;
  • Review Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA) and other similar documents;
  • Manage or assist in export approvals, End User Certificates and liaising with export authorities;
  • Provide contractual support to Plant and Equipment related quotes and tenders;
  • Support Procurement department in reviewing terms and conditions from the suppliers;
  • Support the relevant teams in supplier evaluation or supplier negotiations;
  • Assist the line manager in developing, implementing and maintaining the department processes and procedures.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Experience working in commercial, contracts or supply chain functions, ideally in defence, manufacturing or engineering firms;
  • Experience in liaising with the Australian, European or other international defence customers and suppliers;
  • contract management experience especially in Defence environment;
  • Have an understanding of various cost drivers and commercial risks.
  • A proven track record in building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills teamed with a high level of organisation and initiative
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills and the ability to work collaboratively across different disciplines

Strategic Procurement Officer

About the role

Due to business growth, this newly created role will be responsible for strategic procurement activities which result in improvements in cost, quality, quantity or schedule, a reduction in inventory stock levels, and mitigating supply chain risks. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Identify opportunities for improvising commercial interests of the company across both the existing as well as the upcoming supply chains of multiple submarine battery products;
  • Methodically work on consolidating products and/or suppliers across multiple product lines;
  • Challenge and renegotiate existing contract terms with the existing supply chain (given larger spent profile) either to improve cost, schedule, delivery or reduce supply chain risks;
  • Identify, lead and/or manage transition of overseas supply chains to local suppliers (including finding local alternative suppliers, receiving quotations, preparing technical and commercial summaries of their offers, qualify down-selected suppliers, obtain internal signoffs, negotiate orders with new suppliers);
  • Work across multiple departments to identify inventory reduction initiatives and implement tangible measures to reduce stock on hand;
  • Develop SMART KPIs covering above activities and do regular reporting on them;
  • Support in resolving import/export control constraints encountered during onboarding of new suppliers;
  • Working closely with the Procurement/Purchasing team, provide strategic negotiation support in their dealings with various suppliers and their segments;
  • Lead/manage above changes in the context of other business priorities, schedule, technical or financial viability;
  • Working with Change Control Board to implement changes in supplier or product configuration;
  • Establish/manage tooling registers and liaise with suppliers holding the company tooling;
  • Assisting Procurement/Quality teams in Supplier non-conformance management;
  • Assisting and conducting Supplier Quality Audits/Visits

Qualifications, Skills and Experience 

  • Extensive experience in the strategic procurement field, either in technical, defence, manufacturing or resource industry;
  • Relevant tertiary/CIPS qualification is highly preferable;
  • Understanding of contracts and supplier agreements;
  • Ability to read technical or Engineering drawings, raw material specifications or related documentations;
  • Ability to negotiate with suppliers in the areas of price, quality, schedule and risks;
  • International supply chain exposure, including understanding of international freight and customs;
  • Regularly work outside the office hours to support the international time zones;
  • Possesses excellent analytical, negotiation, prioritisation and customer relation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and detailed knowledge and understanding of contract management
  • A proven track record in building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills and the ability to work collaboratively across different disciplines

Software Developer

About PMB Defence

PMB Defence is a world leading manufacturer of submarine battery systems, which started delivering and supporting the main storage batteries for Australia’s Collins Class Submarines in 1989. PMB Defence has now grown its business by winning various local and international contracts such as supplying submarine battery systems to Canada, the United Kingdom, Sweden and other international customers.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Software Developer to join our multi-disciplinary team developing battery management systems for submarine batteries. This is a 12 month fixed term contract with possibility for extension. You will support the team through design and development of software to monitor and control the operation of large battery systems. The role involves you exercising and building on your diverse range of skills for which key responsibilities will include:

  • Development of software primarily using C, C++ and Python
  • Participate in software design and code reviews
  • Configuration management of source code and documentation which you develop or maintain.
  • Support various data analytic activities relating to the design, build and testing of submarine battery systems.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor Degree or Associate Diploma in Computer Science or Computer Systems Engineering
  • Prior experience in software development is desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge and experience in C, C++, Python languages
  • Experience working with databases (SQL or similar)
  • Unit testing
  • Git or similar SCM tool
  • Jira or similar task management and bug tracking tool

Electrical/Electronic Technical Officer

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Electrical/Electronic Technical Officer to work in a cross-functional engineering team, focussing on the design, build and test of prototype systems and associated test equipment.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the development of new products, through building and testing concept demonstrators and prototype units
  • Assembling of prototype items, reporting and evaluating them
  • Liaising with subcontractors, Management and the Production Department during the process
  • Writing and preparing documentation (such as for assembly, test and maintenance)
  • Performing development tasks in accordance with systems engineering policies
  • Supporting factory maintenance staff with engineering advice as required

The successful candidate will have:

  • Trade or diploma qualification in electrical/electronics
  • Previous experience developing electrical drawings and test documentation
  • Software development skills for control of test equipment is desirable
  • Hands on skills to build and test new concepts and designs

Electrical/Electronic Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Electrical/Electronic Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team on the design of the Electrical/Electronic elements for a new technology battery system, from concept through to manufacture and installation. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Product level design of electrical/electronic sub-systems
  • Modelling of battery systems using Matlab/Simulink or alternatives
  • Development of specifications and design documentation
  • Technical review of reports and engineering work as part of the internal review/approval process, of work spanning a number of engineering disciplines
  • Developing test plans, test tools and scripts for product testing
  • Conducting data analysis of test data and producing test reports
  • Designing, developing and verifying allocated aspects for new products, processes and improvements to existing products

The successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, electrical and electronic systems
  • Fault finding skills for electrical systems
