PMB Defence Engineering (PMB) has been awarded a contract to develop a Battery Demonstrator system for the UK Ministry of Defence.

The contract was signed on the 24th May 2019 and is valued at ₤4.27 million. The development program will span approximately 25 months and will involve the design, build, integration and testing of 10 Demonstrator Battery Modules that will incorporate Nickel Zinc battery cells. The program will also involve development of a battery control unit and short circuit protection equipment.

The successful completion of this contract is expected to lead to an opportunity for subsequent work to manufacture fully-qualified battery modules to replace the existing lead acid batteries in the UK Ministry of Defence’s Fleet of hunter killer submarines.
